MEET OUR TEAM

Melanie McIntyre, MA, LCMHCA

 Greetings!

I am Melanie McIntyre. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate who specializes in the treatment of numerous mental health disorders across various populations.  I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I fell in love with developmental psychology. I went on to complete my Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Mental Health Counseling at Capella University where I developed a stout interest in childhood trauma. While completing my education I worked as a preschool teacher where I helped commence an ancillary program that taught preschoolers Hooked on Reading, Phonics, Math, and Science. This program proved to be successful at our Chapel Hill location and was quickly introduced to our other schools across the district. This experience was very rewarding for me as it presented an opportunity for me to witness the natural stages of development firsthand while also demonstrating to parents the preschoolers’ natural abilities and desires to learn, grow, and thrive.

My passion is to help promote a more mentally stable community through educating the public, eradicating false presumptions and taboo ideologies surrounding therapy, and treating a variety of clients with a host of mental health concerns. Although we use a number of techniques to treat a host of issues, the theoretical orientation with which I most closely identify is Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I also identify with “Freudians” because I have found in most cases a client’s presenting problem has derived from events that the client has either forgotten, suppressed, or thought to be unrelated. My goal as a therapist is to change the faulty perceptions of therapy and treatment in my community while also working to develop a program designed to build relationships, establish positive coping skills, and educate youth in order to support a healthy, more mentally stable environment for adolescents and teenagers to thrive in within my community.
