
Tonya McKoy, BA – Intern
Tonya McKoy is a native of Durham, North Carolina. As a dual degree learner, Tonya graduated from Capella University Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology Pre-Counseling while also working on her current pursuit of a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Tonya has worked in Mental healthcare for 14 years and recently transitioned in 2021 over to Durham Public schools.
Tonya believes as multidimensional beings, the person as a whole has to be accommodated – mind, body, and spirit. Tonya is a licensed minister and practices whole-listic care. She has successfully worked with persons with ADHD, Anxiety, Grief, Self-esteem challenges and depression. Tonya believes that life is not about not having difficult moments but is about learning how to navigate through those moments. Tonya’s favorite quote for life comes from her cousin -"There is benefit in seeing lives change… I believe that we are all change agents, so we have to use our gifts to help make that change come about." - Dr. Sharon Elliott-Bynum.
