Orutanu Ra, BS, MA
Orutanu Ra is a practicum student from the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Fielding Graduate University. Orutanu comes from a multiethnic, multicultural background and has a deep curiosity and love for science and philosophy that stem from his childhood.
He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology from Fayetteville State University. During this time, he was a research assistant at Fayetteville State University, reporting on the psychological well-being of civilians to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during the COVID-19 Pandemic. He also worked with Fortem Genus to gather optical data to detect COVID-19 in individuals' eyes via scanning.
Upon entering Fielding's Clinical Psychology doctoral program, Orutanu has developed a special interest in Neuropsychology and is pursuing a specialization in Neuropsychology. While this is one of his goals, he also strives to be an excellent clinician to help individuals from diverse populations. He was recently part of a pro bono disaster relief clinical practicum working with those affected during Hurrican Helene in western North Carolina. He also conducted cognitive assessments with Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled populations in this same practicum.
Along with school, Orutanu has been a Mixed Martial Artist and Fighter for over 15 years. While the pursuit of his doctoral degree currently prevents engagement in active competition, he still actively trains in his free time, does strength and conditioning, and enjoys traveling, exploring different cultures, learning new languages, playing video games, and watching anime. He hopes that whoever comes across him leaves better than they were.
