Valeria Rivera-Smith, PsyD, LP, received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Ponce Health Science University, Puerto Rico. In addition, she earned a Master of Science in Psychology from Ponce Health Science University, Puerto Rico. As a bilingual clinical psychologist, she believes in an integrative approach aimed to meet the individual needs, strengths, and interests of each client. She also believes that personal growth and introspection are obtained where there is a partnership between the client and clinician.
Throughout her master and doctoral training, she worked in a culturally diverse population, mostly using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, supplemented with several techniques of different therapeutic models such as Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Interpersonal Skills, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Also, Dr. Rivera-Smith has been preparing and working as a Health Psychologist, identifying and working with thoughts, emotions, and behaviors associated with chronic illness to accept, adapt, and commit to medical treatment and a better quality of life. These experiences have granted Dr. Rivera-Smith the capacity of administering a vast range of psychological and psychoeducational tests. Dr. Rivera-Smith has been trained in a variety of clinical setting including government-sponsored and private schools, hospitals, and outpatient psychology clinics.
She was born and raised in Puerto Rico. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exercising, dancing salsa, watching TV series and movies. Dr. Rivera-Smith is committed to the care of children and adults who are seeking proper evaluation, counseling, and follow-up.
